Today I was followed into my workplace(a major retailer) by a council enforcement officer for dropping a cigarette end.He issued me with a caution and read the blurb about anything I say etc and then issued a fpn. This was all done in full view of customers and staff and left me feeling very uncomfortable.I admit I shouldn't have put the cigarette on the ground but there are no bins around. My question is can they follow me into my workplace and cause me considerable embarrassment?

I doubt they intentionally followed you to work just to embarrass you.

I'd suggest you pay up.. I've seen some whopping fines in court for non-payment.
How did he know you worked there?

He obviously intentionally followed me into my workplace;why didn' he approach me outside immediately after I dropped the gigarette end?
You know what council leeches are like.
He would be around the back of your house peering in the windows if he had to be.
Next time, make sure you're not spotted .. and if so, do a James Bond 'give them the slip' routine : )
Would actually be quite good fun if you knew they were following you.
Because they are a bunch of Power-Mad Clowns once they get a Uniform. A guy where I live was getting of the bus holding his 1 year old child when his bus ticket was blown out of his hand,"Hitler" never gave him a chance to pick it up and had the notice written as fast as he could.Tha guy appealed through the prope channels but to no avail.
The phrase .. 'common sense' doesn't figure with Councils.
Stub out your fag and keep hold of it until you get into work where you can put it into the nearest bin

Do not pass go, do not collect £200, do not receive a Fixed Penalty Notice

It ain't rocket science
Albags and Everhelpful. i work in a public park and the amount of litter we have to pick up on a daily basis can be unbelievable. Sometomes, we have 6 people taking 3-4 hours to pick up the previous days crap.

No sympathy im afraid.
just out of interest 123bernadett, who did you think was going to pick up your fag end for you?
What about the guy who's ticket blew out of his hand? What should he have done, joeluke? You seem to have the answer to everything.
Is that not what they are employed to do,hammerman,or does it interfere with their tea-breaks?
Everhelpful.......common sense should have prevailed there, cigarette butt didn't accidently blow out of OP's hand
Thanks,joe

I KNOW i DROPPED THE CIG. END BUT IT'S THE FACT HE FOLLOWED ME INTO WORK AND DIDN'T APPROACH ME OUTSIDE THAT INFURIATES ME
i agree him following you and making a big public show of it was a bit mean spirited and a bit out of order, but really he is not obliged to be sensitive and worry about your embarassment... he has not done anything wrong other than be a bit indiscrete...

he probably followed you to be sure he got genuine info from you...

i would just pay it because even if you complain and he is reprimanded - it will not cancel out the ticket...you did drop the butt
you shouldn't have littered then, should you?

hopefully you won't do it again.
Still annoying you innit? LOL
Hammerman ..

Don't take offence .. The councils of this country will always be mocked for it's great ability in inventing great new excuses for taking excessive amounts of cash from the motoring or general public.
It's your job 'brief' from your bosses we have a problem with .. not the fact that some of you chose to clear our public areas of pasty wrappers .. used johnnies .. cans, etc, etc.

Bin spies and bin microchips .. using surveillance powers to spy on folk taking kids to school, etc, etc. are good illustrations.

I suppose you are there FINING the old ladies who bring and chuck bread for the ducks too? Isn't that littering then? Eh?
Good for you,albags.Well said.
So the crux of the matter is that you were embarrassed because he gave you the FPN in your place of work?

So if someone burgled your house you wouldn't want the police going into their place of work to arrest them then just in case it caused them embarrassment?
