Settle an arguement.....is it illegal to buy pirate Dvd's? and is it illegal to have them in your house?

have you copied the dvd for financial gain yourself or have you just bought a pitate copy?

these days there are hi def tvs and blueray players......can anybody explain that with such wonderfull equipment around why people watch these inferior pirate copies?

How does the law work regarding films that have been broadcast on television and you have used a dvd recorder and put it on a disc, is this not the same as downloading and burning.
