I was recently attacked by my ex wife's husband whilst dropping off my son having just spent the day with him.
He attempted to strangle me, and was subsequently arrested. He admitted the assault whilst in interview. Unfortunately the police thought it only worthy of a police caution. But its a caution non the
What I want to do is take out a restraining order to prevent him being present at future drop offs and pick ups of my son in an attempt to stop any future violence.
The attack took place in a busy supermarket car park, so being seen or having witnesses didn't bother the offender one bit. He was also aware that I was filming the drop off as I had previously warned them, that due to previous threats I wanted evidence.
Please can anyone advise how I can go about obtaining a restraining order or something similar.
Ideally I would prefer to deal direct with a court rather than a solicitor due to the costs.
Thanks

Please give the other side of the story too. Was this entirely unprovoked? What did you say or do to induce this behaviour?
I guess filming the drop off may have been seen as provocation.

I can honestly say that it was unprovoked. The filming was covert to protect me from previous false allegations made by the ex.
You probably do need legal advice - preferably from a family law solicitor. However, you could try going to a free local law centre if there is one in your area, or to CAB (they sometimes have arrangements for clients to have a free interview with a solicitor).
