Why did you not have the car?
6 months? call the police!
Have you got the paperwork for the car or a receipt for the money?
Im smelling a rat!
I'm wondering if it's the full payment for the car or just a deposit he put down- in which case then he would likely not have the car or his money back depending on the nature of the contract. As gran says do you have a receipt and if so what is the woridng please?
If the police will not help send him a final demand http://www.biztree.co...ayment---Letter.html. and threaten him with small claims court.
you're not very lucky with cars, are you?

Hiya it was only a total of 400 pounds. it was a old car but it's still my money I've lost. He's said its needed work etc then tells me to call him week later then says he's waiting for bits ...6 months later same thing
decide if £400 matters to you, then do something about it. you don't sound bothered either way, and obviously he knows it!
Have you a bill or agreement of sale?
This is breach of contract, isn't it?!
And £400 off a DEALER!! Can't be much of a car IMO.
After 6 months I think your £400 will have gone by now.

Look I asked for friendly advice not to be taken the Micky out of yes I have two kids and rent to pay course 400 pounds matters. I have the v5 doc and a receipt. It was a superb car but it was better than walking my kids to school and he abused the situation
I wasn't taking the mickey for one, just being realistic about cheap cars from dealers
Small Claims Court then.
Get a letter written first to give a reason, or surrender the £400 within 14 days.
so go and get it, get the work finished elsewhere and sue him for the cost. no one was taking the pee..
I bought a Micra for little over that amount two and a half years ago. Also from a dealer.

It has had nothing wrong with it in those 2 1/2 years, except £60 for brake pads, starts up perfectly every morning - even in ice and snow. Sails through every MOT and can still do 70+ on the motorway.

Having had quite a few cars, I have to say, it is the best (and cheapest) motor I have ever had!

thebest--don't just let this go -- do as advised by others. This is your money -- not his --- so do something about it. He must be thinking that you are a soft touch-- show him that you are not .Good luck.
I would report this to my County Council Trading Standards and ask for their advice.
