in the town i live in i see lots of young men & women that can only be called "wasted" by that i mean slurred speech (drink and drugs) vacant looking usually fffing and blinding some with either can of kestrel in their hand or big bottle of cider.
do these I'm talking about get the same handouts as genuine people looking for work?? i thought you had to be eligible for work, these? no way couldn't even fill a form in but they can be up early for the dhss office when its their day for handouts i can see it from our house,

unemployment can bring on depression, depression can bring on increased alcohol/drug use
There hasn't been any such thing as DHSS for many years now, it is DWP.

so do they get the same handouts? ,these are 18 to 25 year olds I'm talking about that are drinking day and night in town just wondering where's the money coming from
you get more money i heard if your a drug addict or alcoholic. I think i'm going to take up a career in drinking, certainly be better off lol
their benefits obviously...
Question Author
well what ever its called daffy it a very big building blocking a good view here lol
sadly everyone has their own story,as to why they become addicted to drugs/alcohol, i would think they qualify for some kind of benefit payments.
People get the same rates of benefit no matter how they spend it. It's not a fortune and I guess they can't afford to buy that much drink.
there are plenty of shop selling very cheap cans, its very easy to get "wasted" on benefits, as long as your not fussy about how cheap and nasty the alcohol is.
being an alcoholic / drug addict does not entitle you to get extra benefits.
Yes, they get hand outs and they most likely get more because they live on DLA (or what ever they call it nowadays) because of their addictions
Disgusting IMO
Question Author
i thought you only got the max benefit ,like genuine people looking for jobs and appear eligible for work
the ones i'm referring to are certainly not eligible
sandy i can point you in the direction of a few bars round here that have them standing outside to smoke & drink from 10in the morning till 5 sat night not including the cider drinkers in doorways
Question Author
at night not sat night
What absolute rubbish I'm reading. You do NOT get any allowance to buy alcohol or drugs. I have been on Incapacity benefit (now ESA) and have currently been on JSA for 6 months. I am an alcoholic (been dry for 13 months now) Someone said "they are drinking day and night" So, i take it you're standing around town 24/7 watching? JSA for a single man is £65 per week, If a young person lives at home with parents then I'm sure he can afford quite a few cans per week.
This theory that the DWP will fund your habit is ridiculous. OK rant over time for a cuppa!
Question Author
where did i say the get an allowance? i asked if they got the same as people eligible for work, these aren't and yes we live in the town centre with a good view (apart from the dhss or whatever its called now) of life in general
chill out
I never said you said it. lotsafun said it. Why don't YOU chill out........and watch some TV instead of nosing out of your window all day ;-)
yes we live in a welfare state jack.
whatever the good or bad aspects ... when you fall down in the street someone (usually) picks you up.
Surely thats better than leaving them there?
cath.....a welfare state that we cannot afford..........so stop falling down in the street.
lol @ sqad
