I'd check if your computer (assuming it came with windows7 installed) has got a utility on the hard drive to produce a set of restore DVDs first, and if it has make those and reinstall from them after fitting the new drive.

If it hasn't then you can always contact the manufacturer of the computer and ask if they will send you a set of restore disks, most will.

And if you have a illegal copy of windows installed and that's the reason you haven't got any original disks then go and buy windows7.
Best way really is just to try the options.
You can always refit the old drive.
Where would you find this utility on your hard drive, that might allow you to produce restore disks ..?
Look through Program Files .. as it may be a utility added by Laptop maufacturer .. There is nothing very good natively supplied with Windows.
Unfortunately, manufacturers own software soon becomes out of date, will not work correctly, or other .. as they are not so good at making/developing this software as outside sources.
