I think Chris posted a link stating how much the police had to pay out in repairs.
The police will pay for any damages caused in the case of a raid that turns out to be totally wrong, however they will try and find any reason possible to get away with just having to make the property secure (which is just a case of boarding up usually).
As with anything if someone can get away with not paying for something they will!
The correct answer, minus snide remarks, is that yes, the Police are duty bound to arrange to effect any repairs at the expense of that Police Force/Authority, for damage caused by them in making a forced entry into a property, regardless of whether items, "illegal" or otherwise, are found.

Copies of relevant search documents regarding the method of entry & any subsequent search would be supplied to the property owner/occupier/tenant.
