It's not solitude though Salla. You'll be locked up in a very small space with a stranger...

My cousin was in a cat B. He had to wear a prison issue track suit. He could only phone numbers that had been registered with the prison. Most of the time is spent in the cell. He lost loads of weight.
It's full of the sort of people you'd cross the road to avoid. Most of the prisoners are just as bad.
is there as much violence, bullying and assault from inmate to inmate as sometimes is portrayed?
He spent a week in a cat A holding prison. He said that was awful. He only served 6 weeks and I did think that was enough to change him. Until I seen his name on 'pubwatch'

Thank you all for being honest, If you have any other information i would like to hear it just incase.thanks again
There was a few fights while he was in. He hated his Muslim cell mate because of his praying. Doing number 2's with someone in the room was not pleasant.

He did get to watch lot's of TV though...
Ummm, did that Muslim chap object to your cousin praying?
If he spent more time praying and less time fighting he might have avoided prison :-)
Maybe not - but I bet he objected to all those number 2's............
It depends on what category of prison you are sent to. I live near an open prison where the inmates are allowed to leave the site daily to go to work/college. They wear prison issue jeans and shirts on site, but their own clothes when off site. They are not allowed to make unlimited phone calls from the prison.
I know someone who was in an open prison. he could wear his own clothes, and "earned" privileges (games console in his cell, days out, etc), breakfast was delivered to his cell, as was his lunch which was basic and not a lot of it.

i think it must depend - I know 2 people that went to prison (1 for theft and 1 for dealing) both seemed to have a relatively easy ride from what they said ... phonecalls, gym, playstation and 1 did some further learning courses ... but again, i think it depends on age, where you are, what crime you have committed and whether you have had priors or been to prison before
deends on what category prison you are in. there are 5 i think, catA, B,C,D, and open. A is 23 hour lock up with B, C is slightly better where u can do work, education etc, and have more time to make calls etc, D is pretty much like an open prison, the open prison allows you to leave the prison during the day and return at night, and have town visits....Most prison offer inmates work, like in the kitchens, or cleaning etc which allows them to leave thgeir cells during the day, they can then make sneaky fone calls, the guards usually turn a blind eye as they are working. All prison have lock up at 7pm after which time the cells are locked till morning 6am. Hope this helps

Thanks once again churchill123 youve been great help, just hope it dosnt come to it.
On sites like this - and indeed pubs and offices nationwided, there is the popular view that prison is some kind of holiday camp.

I have no experience, but I always think of this simple concept - if i want to walk away from my PC nwo, and step outside, go for a walk to the shops, drive home, pop to the cinema, anything we all take for granted, i can.

A prisnoer can not. Surely that removal of basic freedom has to be a punishment in itself - it would be to me.
I could cope with the solitude and being locked up - what I couldn't cope with is being attacked, threatened, assaulted etc. I'm just a wuss.

My cousin was busted in Thailand for drug trafficking and did 5 years there before being sent back to UK to serve remainder of sentence. He said Thailand was awful in terms of food, hygiene and health, but UK was worse in terms of sexual abuse and violence. He's a small guy and suffered.
Oh I could not possibly share.... I'd have to have one to myself. Good Lord - I can't be in a confined space with a con.
