Could you possibly ask for an appeal if the complainant admitted that he had told lies and the police put him up to do it? I thought that this was perjury? Would appreciate some answers please.

Yes an application can be made as new compelling evidence has arisen and therefore the conviction is unsafe. Real evidence/proof in support would need to be provided. And up to CPS if they want to pursue charge of perverting the course of justice against Complainant.

Admitted, who to? If that was admitted in court there wouldn't be a conviction.
It's also what someone says to appease their friends and the friends and family of the convicted person. They regret having testified. They find that they are not popular after giving evidence, so they blame the police for what they did. What do you mean by 'put him up to it'. ? He must have some motive for getting somebody convicted by telling lies,. It's an odd thing to do without a motive. What was the benefit to him in it all ?.
