I have written a letter cancelling a service - it is only 30.00 but they are refusing to refund me. I have sent them an email (without prejudice) explaining that I would like the refund. I have stated in the email that if they do not pay I will write by recorded delivery giving them 7 days to pay and if they still don't then I will take it further.

Question is - when I write the recorded delivery letter can I claim the time it has taken me to do it and associated costs of posting - eg 35.00.

If I later take it to court, I understand that I can claim the 30 with the court fees, but can I charge them more than that - ie time / effort

You can only claim what it's actually cost - ie no time.

thanks for that answer - it is a shame - its hardly worth claiming - only on a point of principle - the cost of my time to attend court would be far more than 30!
Charge them interest lost lol..... xxx

btw.... aeons ago, we were discussing solar power.... I got it installed last Oct. and it is brilliant!!! the temp on the water this morning is 38 so using solar water only....

Massive savings on gas bills already :-)

wow, that was a while back - we changed to gas from oil and have are now in the process of converting our cellar which had a 200 litre oil tank in it to a usable room.

I just couldn't justify the spend on solar.
I've just got my gas bill, over 300. Blimey I know it was cold but this is the highest it's ever been.
I truly am amazed at the saving on the gas, and am now going to look into the wood burners for our heating. The cost of the panels plus all their hard work (the company) was 4100..... and the panels have a 25 year guarantee.... we had a 1.20 gas bill... so it has balanced out against the cost....

Sorry for the divert of topic Vic, just saw your name lol.... and remembered our converse ;-) xxx
What do the terms and conditions say about cancellation?

How much notice did you give that you wanted to cancel?

It is pointless throwing good money after bad and wasting your time and energy if they are within their rights to refuse a refund.

Thanks Ethel, I am covered with the cancellation under Distance Selling Regulations - they have not sent me any Terms & Conditions etc so therefore I have up to 3 months and 7 days to cancel.
