Giving free rein to the minority voice whilst the rest of us watch on in some degree of despair seems to be having unintended consequences. Because of her trendy stance on 'trans', Nicola Sturgeon has gone, and the latest news is that the SNP has lost about a third of its membership. Charities, apparently extending their interests beyond the purposes of their founders are bent on following the trend and are subsequently losing support, and Gary Lineker's shenanigans have focused greater criticism on the BBC's funding and could perhaps lead to the final nail being hammered into its coffin - and none of it intended.

Just an observation - but in hope that common sense will ultimately prevail. I've always said the woke will end up climbing up their own bottoms and at this rate it's entirely possible.

What is woke culture ?
woke culture is "pretty well anything I disagree with", Gromit. Formerly known as "PC gone mad".

Well that's an eye-opener. I always got the impression that you agreed with much of it, jno.
The problem with Wokes is that the actual number of them, and the real lasting impact they have, is directly inversely proportional to the amount of noise and fuss they make.

They generate a huge amount of media interest because their rampant self-centred superiority vexed the other 99.99999% of the population, and moaning sells papers and generates Net coverage - like this.

We know that crackpot and idiots have always been a part of society, sadly, technology provides tailored platforms for their piffle to reach the sane world.

But the sane world is always the majority, and it will do what it has always done - make a lot of noise, bluster a bit, and then ignore it and carry on as usual.

If only.
I found the Sturgeon thing comical - it was laugh out loud funny at times (not the crimes committed by the piece of filth rapist before somebody piles in).

During the hilarious car crash interview she said, paraphrasing, "trans women are women but in the prison context there's no automatic right for them to be housed in a prison for women". The interviewer missed an opportunity - he really should have pressed her more and asked her if she truly thinks he's a women, why have you sent him to a prison for men. She was tying herself up in knots anyway, but this would have been the icing on the cake.

Seems to me she was saying trans women are women only some of the time.

The GRB was a massive own goal which directly led to her downfall.
Woke culture is the new set of insane views that no one with 2 or more IQ points to rub together, could hold. But it seems one needs to be of an older generation too see and point this out.

IMO the GL bit that caused a drop in support for the licence fee is likely to be where the company rolled over and were seen to be incapable of dealing with a genuine issue. Who needs to support that ?
//What is woke culture ?//

Those who ask that are usually the very ones enthralled by it.
If ‘woke’ is ‘Political Correctness’ why not call it that ?

Is it just an excuse to rehash arguments that have been going on for the last 25 years?
gromit - if you seriously want to know what 'woke' is have a read of this, it tells you everything you need to know:

PC and woke are different things but clearly related. I'm unsure I'm able to give a perfect definition given the nebulous subjective nature of the concepts. But...

PC is mainly about being so sensitive to one's own beliefs in another's feelings that they criticise and demean anyone speaking normally with the delusional aim they will stop any offence some other, who may or may not be offended by the non-offensive, because they might not ve oversensitive anyway, might feel.

Woke folk, on the other hand want to denigrate their own people, make them feel bad for who they are, who their ancestors were, and anything they can fling at their own nation, even unto words used in normal speech. And at the same time try virtue signal and build up other nations as being hard done by and victims of past atrocities, which the present population must continually wear sackcloth & ashes, and keep their head bowed low, for in penitence.

As mentioned, related, but obviously woke is an extension of PC made by the very worst guilt givers in society.
I believe woke comes from the colonials, their lazy way of saying awake as in awake to the injustices all around.

Mostly from black folks.
Where they see, or make up, injustice everywhere.
That's just the human condition though, innit.
You are correct Douglas, but as many other words it has morphed well on from that.

Personally I dont like the word, but I suppose it has to be something.
'the colonials'?
Interesting article from Vox on wokeness:

Original, the term "woke" referred to keeping watch for police brutality and unjust police tactics especially after the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson...but the meaning has completely changed now.

On the left, to be “woke” means to identify as a staunch social justice advocate who’s abreast of contemporary political concerns — or to be perceived that way, whether or not you ever claimed to be “woke” yourself.

On the right, “woke” — like its cousins “canceled” and “political correctness gone mad", and the term itself is usually used sarcastically.

But as use of the word spreads, what people actually mean by “woke” seems less clear than ever.

After all, none of these recent political concepts has anything to do with the idea of demanding that people “stay woke” against police brutality. Despite renewed activism against police brutality in 2020, the way that terms like “woke” and “wokeness” are used outside of the Black Lives Matter community seems to bear little connection to their original context, on either the right and the left.
But getting back to the discussion point - I think we're now at an inflection point...the left are moving further to the left and the right are moving further to the right.

Patton Oswald (awesome American comedian) said in one of his recent stand-ups that what you may think had perfect social credentials now, may be seen by future generations as being terribly wrong...

...kinda looking forward to finding out what that might be.
A humourous handle for Americans, dear boy, but you knew that.
