How and when does a solicitor "bill" a client

My partner is about to see a solicitor regards getting half the value of his house from her since their split. The house is no longer mortgaged and he is entitled to minimum £100k from it.

I know he has to pay £500.00 this week at his first appointment to start the ball rolling but do solicitors charge as you go and expect payments along the way ... or do they bill you at the end of a case??

Barmaid

The solicitor is required to give fee information upon instruction - such as the hourly charges and disbursements (out of pocket expenses such as court fees etc).

Normally solicitors will issue interim bills and expect payments along the way. However, you may be able to agree with the solicitor that he will bill at the end. Discuss it with him as soon as poss.

Thanks for that - I know everyone works in different ways but wanted to see if there was a "routine" in billing.

I am going with him this Friday to see her plus she is my partners friends wife!! Im sure she will be accommodating ...
