I have been? asked to help look after a friend's mum who is elderly. She is already having carers four times a day for personal care ect. The family would like to pay someone just to sit with their mum for a few hours so they can have a break. Would that make me self employed or an employee? Depending on which somebody has to be legally responsible. Im not sure who that is or where to find out? Thanks

I would suggest that you would need some sort of liability cover, however, it may be up to the people who employ you to do this. If you consider yourself to be self employed, then make some enquiries about insurance to cover yourself. You will probably find the cost is prohibative though. You will probably also need to undergo a crb check.
