Could someone please tell exactly what is a Small Claims Court and how it works.

To be pedantic, there's no such thing as a Small Claims Court. There is simply a small claims process, which is handled by County Courts. However there's now an online claims process as well.

If you're considering making a claim you first need to make a written demand for payment for the money which you believe is owed to you. (A court won't consider a claim unless you've already given the debtor a chance to pay up, and he's failed to do so).
