Hope someone can advise on the following please...

We exchanged on our house move on 6th April with a completion date of 13th May. People we are buying from are moving to a new house which should've been completed in January but has been delayed again and again. We have booked our removals and paid the deposit, etc.
Found out yesterday from the owner of the house we are buying that their new house has been delayed for another few weeks (no new date proposed as yet).
Now that we have exchanged and have the completion date in writing not sure what is the best course of action to take. We could move in with family but are afraid that the delay will keep happening. We think the onus is on our seller to find somewhere in the interim or possibly make the company building their new house liable for any addtional costs? Not sure whether to contact our solicitor etc.
Help! Thanks.

I'd agree with you that the onus is on the seller to move out on the said date. Surely if you have exchanged contracts and agreed a completion date, this is a legally binding contract?
Yes contact your solicitor FAST. The last time we moved, there was a penalty for failing to vacate the house on the date agreed...Its not relevant to you how the seller deals with his problems..he shouldn't be passing them on to you.
If they are still in the house once the completion date has passed then they would be squatting in your property.

Thanks all for your help
Can I just check - have you exchanged on the house you're buying as well as the one you're selling? Its not entirely clear from your post and makes a big difference to the answer!
