I live at the end of a road (not private) where my neighbour has over the last year completly wrecked the look of the street by adding a container which he has permentaly fixed with concrete as a make shift garage opposite his house, broken cars, (hes like mad max!) and an extension which is bigger than his house with no planning permssion.

The lane is rather small we live on and hes colonised the land opposite his house as his own, so now i have to drive through it all to get to my house like im going through his back yard!.

Further more the guy put bluntly is a nut case, i have seen him put glass under peoples tyres because they parked outside his house "on the land hes made by dumping soil from his extension"

I dont think anyone has done anything as they are all too scared of the guy, but i have complained about recently to the enforcement department and I am wondering if i am doing the right thing, purely for fear of retribution.

Am i doing the right thing or should i just live with it?

No-one should feel like this in their own home !
You have done exactly the right thing..........and what's more keep on doing it !

Don't get brought into anything 'personal' with him but keep badgering your Local Authority. Keep them up to date with everything and anything....

Remember, he has no more rights than you !! Best of luck :o)
Did the enforcement dept say your details are kept confidential?

I couldn't live with that, it would drive me nuts, I would even think of moving in your situation. Have you got photo of what the road use to look like without his rubbish and 'development' if you could call it that. I am sure the enforcement people might see where you are coming from even more with an image (as long as you or your family arne't pictured) if so cut that bit out.

Yes well if you look on google maps you can see the street prior to him moving in, and then compared to now its like driving through a scrap yard. Its ridiculous, i would post pictures up but im even worried talking about it on here!!
Calm yourself.
The fact that it is *you* who is suffering from this idiot's actions is almost incidental. He would be behaving in the same obnoxious manner whomever his neighbours happened to be.
The Local Authority ought to assume the role of 'person being caused nuisance to' and deal with him as if it is 'they' who are directly affected by his inconsiderate behaviour.
You have set the wheels in motion..........just make sure that you are in a position to give them a little 'nudge' now and again, should the situation require it. :o)
yeah i'm always like that when I am compaining about a person on here like an building firm local to me and saying what a **** they are I often worry if it would catch up with me.

I once tried to complain to the local council about dog fouling outside an office I rent, because I knew it was the same person everytime and I was told Io apply I had to give them all my details, but I didn't trust the information getting through to the other people. So i didn't bother. In this instance through you are living in the middle of it and it is devaluing your property so you really have to bite the bullet. But I would make extra care, to stress the information is condiential in all correspondence with the enforcement dept and act cool around the guy in question, so if a when he does get a letter through the door he doesn't think 'oh well he has been acting odd'

Thanks for the wise words both, it does help. I guess its just one of theose things i have to bite the bullet as you say. I speak to him quite reguarly though and strangely dont have any problems with him as a person, its just he has no regard for planning, building control or any one else on the street. In his eyes hes doing no wrong as our street is a cul de sac out of the way on a small lane so very few people to complain about it, 3 at most!

I'll crack onto them again, its been 2 weeks now and still no one has been out, typical council!!
Yes you have done the right thing. The Enforcement Team will keep your details confidential but if it goes to court they may need to ask you to appear or provide your letters in evidence, so you need to think about this now as its a huge waste of time and effort to let them investigate and take action, only to refuse to appear as a witness.

I hope they get it sorted out for you before it comes to that though.
