The job application conundrum

I completed a Master's last year but have spent coming on seven months not able to get a job in the field. The way the job applications in the UK are worded they want outsiders to have insider knowledge. This is of course veering on the impossible. It seems that the jobs can only then be given to those in the inside which is the way employers are getting around having to offer external candidates by law the jobs as well.

What was your Masters Degree in,Pufflette ? Job hunting these days is a minefield but you have to persevere until a suitable job comes up.

The problem is that the vast amount of jobs are going to filled internaly, but due to legislation jobs have to be advertised externaly. So instead of having a genuine market you have a vast time consuming (and wasting) Market

Uni's dont run courses to suit employers and vice-versa. Just 'cause you have a Masters, that doesn't suit all employers. You should have secured a position in a company that would sponsor you for your master's.

With a Master's you could generate SE income & employ others. Good luck anyway.

Pfufflette and Davethedo- I'm not aware there is a law requiring employers to advertise jobs externally.

I get the feeling that for every half-decent job going there are a zillion applicants. While the economic storm continues (and it will probably get worse after the election) get any job or work you can. Keep your debts as low as possible and when in 3 or 4 years' time the economy starts to pick-up again employers will be creating jobs to suit your Master's degree skills. Also, depending on your family circumstances, have you thought about overseas? Think of countries which might have a shortage of people with your skills.

Thanks A1Mikey. Yes, I hope to emigrate but that according to the country website the process takes 11 months. I have to, as you said, ride the storm in the meantime.
