i am embarrassed and ashamed to say that a year ago i was cautioned for shoplifting and given a formal caution. it was a horrific time in my life, and iv since turned my life around and will never do anything like that again.

i applied for a j1 visa last week to work in the states for a few weeks with work. i ticked "no" to the convictions part and now am paniciing. I wasn't arrested on the day i was caught, no fingerprints, photos etc were taken, and i just signed a form a few weeksn later and was told it would be 'spent' immediately.
i am now terrified i have jepordised my whole trip and job becuase of this.

could anyone clarify this, as i am having sleepless nights about the j1 interview... any help would be so appreciated.

The most important thing is you acknowledging what you did was wrong and will to turn over a new leaf. Do not have sleepless nights over this. Just stay focused and nothing will happen. Links between the US and UK are not that tight.

Good luck and all the best
don't worry about it the yanks won't have scooby do about this.
