What is the approximate hourly rate for private personal tuition leading to GCSE or A level by a university graduate?

My friends (uni graduates) who tutor in London usually get between �25-30 per hour for A-Level, �20-�25 for GCSE. Depends slightly whether you go through an agency as obviously they charge a fee and on how many hours are booked etc.


I was looking in to doing this, as it's well paid and uses skills you already have, but couldn't fit it in around my current course.

Thanks. I believe that many people are taking their kids away from private schools because of the cost and I heard that they are using this method instead.

In actual fact many parents with children at private schools also employ private tutors to 'cram' their kids for exams or because the school has not helped their child.
However the fee will depend on the local market - likely to be lots of work around London & south-east, but less as you move away from there.
�20 an hour is about standard for an experienced supply teacher, so that's something you can gauge fee levels by. It reflects the irregularity of the work compared with the implied skill of the tutor.
