Am thinking of becoming a driving instructor but this company recently got some bad press. Can anyone advise if this was true

The whole concept got bad publicity- the people who benefit are the training companies that take your money. Paying doesn't guarantee you'll pass and certainly doesn't guarantee you'll make a career -there just isn't enough demand for instructors
Not the driving school you are referring to, but my friend using a different school, paid for her training, and passed. Then the school wanted �3000 for the franchise, which she couldn't afford, and which was not mentioned previously. So the money she paid out for the training and the effort, was down the drain. It seems that most of the driving schools offering training, retain the right to tie the pass to a franchise.
don't touch with barge pole, they do nothing you cannot do yourself. I've heard some right horror stories about these and others, essentially they sell training, then they'll try and flog you a franchise as said above. If you do take up the franchise, you'll get all the sh1t appointments that no one will do. You can easliy become an instructor yourself without these parasites.
