for a person to live? what in your opinion is the minimum income needed-after shelter (rent or mortgage)- to live. This includes food, taxes, utilities, phone,TV,clothing, moderate socialising...but not a car. I am just wondering what everyone considers as basic needs, and what you think is a reasonable and realisticamount-in light of the credit crunch. This is for one person...

Council tax - could be 60 to well over 100
Gas and electric - same
House insurance - depends where you live
You can control the rest
Phone - who knows? I don't have a land line, and my PAYG phone costs less than 3 a year
Clothing - are you a charity shop, New Look or designer shopper?

Hi Pasta xx
How's doing?
Firstly with rent only included based on flat or house share.
Can be so varied depending on size of mortgage/rent and utilities etc, but i would say a single person can get by on 150-220 a week, if they didnt have the extra expense of a car, too expensive tastes like socialising MOST nights, top class nosh and drink, clothes etc AND if renting a flat or house sharing with at least 3 others..........people with a mortgage ....depends on amount borrowed and monthly payment ....as very good deals from lenders now due to recession and interest rate low.
No cable/sky complete packages either, as pricey! just freeview
80-100 off that if no rent paid per week.
SO between 70-140 to spend on yourself.......varied yes....but you need to enjoy yourself once in a while too...agreed? otherwise madness sets in!
