What exactly is an allied industry? Apparently I need experience in one for a job, but i'm not sure what one is.

Dictionaries are quite useful and can be found online. From dictionary.com: Allied - Of a similar nature

dezst - If you wish to apply for a job in a particular type of company, and they ask for experience in an allied industry, and example would be -
Catering Industry - Allied Industry experience could be working as a chef, or a baker.
Retail Industry - may require experience in other types of shops or supermarkets.
