some employees were not allowed to apply for new "title" position and now being made redundant even though they do the same job is this legal they are long established members of staff and their jobs will be replaced by staff already chosen. Is this legal (some are being trained at time of writing)

Were those being made redundant and those 'replacing' them all doing the same job? If so, I'm not sure why some are now being trained.

If everyone is doing the same job and the employer just needs fewer people role then there should be a fair selection process agreed. Do you know how the employer has chosen the staff you say ahve already been chosen?

The best way I think is to get people to apply for the reduced number of posts but I've seen employers use things like Last In First Out, absence, performance manangement scores etc - although we need buildersmate to confirm the legality of this.

Is everyone in the same location? In another posting you mentioned shifts- has a whole shift been excluded? .
It's a rotten thing to have to go through Fairness. But the point is, if your employer wants to get rid of either you or your job, they will achieve that and there is relatively little you can do other than not beat yourself up, learn from the experience, and move on as smoothly as possible.
It is an absolute bogger to see someone being given 'your' job or the one you knew you were qualified for, but this is the organisation you work for at its 'best'. Been therre hun. Concentrate your energies in getting over this and moving on, and good luck.
