Is working at a Royal Mail sorting office the most manually intensive job -is all of the millions of mail handled individually at some point?

The bulk of the mail (letters) is done by machine. It gets broken down to area, then town, and then by delivery walks.

There is still some to be sorted once it reaches the delivery office.

Packets are ultmitely manual sorted, though they get filtered first like the letters.
