cliches are easily said but rarely true right? after losing my job it gave me time to reasses but also needed to find work quickly as i have bills etc, now have 2 part time jobs which are more customer based so as well as meeting new people ill have new colleagues to get to know.....i know i shouldnt think this way but my social life has stagnated and as these are stop gap jobs was maybe hoping to meet a nice girl or new drinking buddies. thats my way of trying to make light of my plight.....but these days everyone already has their own friends and priorities or are married. its made me feel a little bit on the shelf but im trying to tell myself some good may come of it. ive had a good upbringing and a decent career but feel its time to put my feet down and build something for myself, my friends are scattered over uk so seeing them is rare....just wondered if any1 had any success stories?? i just hope i dont let the loud ones intimidate me and maybe be more outgoing n less judgemental...and more open!!! tha

Hi, about five years ago I was in a similar position to you, all of my friends were either married or had boyfriends and had their own lives and I spent most of my time either working or at home with the parents. All came to a head when I went to the docs after feeling unwell and he told me I had depression and wanted to put me on anti-depressents. This made me really think of my life and where it was going (nowhere fast!) I took the anti-depressents for about a week but then decided that I didn't want to rely on tablets to make me feel better and that it was up to me to do something about my life and make myself feel better - so I came off the tablets and joined an internet dating site, after meeting a few strange and nice men I finally met a really great bloke, we have bearly spent a day apart since we met - three years ago we moved in together and just over three weeks time we will be married. My life has completely turned itself around in a relitively short time, I am doing an evening course to improve my career and I can say I am genuinely happy and life is good. My advice would be don't wait for life to come to you get out there and do something about it, don't expect things to happen overnight and be thankfull for what you have. Take Care x
