I make a good income from eBay and so do many thousands of other people.

I would recommend it if:
You know your product(s)
You know your market
You have good suppliers
You are well organsed
Can work alone
You are self disciplined
I know 2 people who do, thought about it myself but wrapping up parcels and having to post them would get on my nerves. : - )

What do you sell Ethel and how are you?
I never divulge on here what I sell - it is niche with very few competitors. I could easily be identified and I really don't want that. :)

I'm tickety boo, thanks - as well as can be expected. :)
Ethel neatly sidesteps tax inspection!
LOL Squitty.

Hmm, I reckon it could be stuff for grown ups Ethel? :-)
Possibly certain smoking products not available at the newsagents eh? :-)

Ethel.... is there anything you would stay away from... TIA

I'm still paying tax. :(

And it is above board and perfectly legal - nothing exciting at all, in fact.
Donna - I would stay away from books, dvds and cds, simply because there is far too much competition.

Also anything that is going to be too awkward/heavy/fragile to send by post.

I would avoid clothing too, simply because I have no interest whatsover in it.

zacmaster, cafe idea still there but at the min with credit issue and food increases not the right time.
I wouldn't avoid something I know very well, am very interested in and have good contacts.

:)
A scam I never expected on ebay is wysiwyg (what you see etc). Send off the money and told its just the visual site! Bu33ar!
I have a sideline business (seperate to my main ones) selling the part exchange cars I get on ebay and the odd occasional foreign property.
As Ethel says, this is because I know cars and know foreign property, so yes a good living can be made fairly easily but you really do have to know your subject and the market for it ( and be very very honest about what you're selling as well).
I'd never attempt to sell anything I didn't know about as it would be pretty easy to come unstuck in that scenario and gain bad feedback, not because of deliberate misrepresentation but because of genuine ignorance on my part.
What are you thinking of selling Donna?
I know an enormously big house in a villiage near us, and everytime we pass it my friend says That woman made all her money on ebay, and bought that house with it. So ebay has made someone a very good living... Anyone know how to use a scanner I'm a bit of an idoit when it come to all things digital!!
I know a guy who has been running a medium sized e bay business for about three years. He has his own shop on there and he sais that due to changes ebay have made regarding sellers, they are effectively killing e bay for people wishing to make a living from it.
You'd have to find a niche product to sell cos theres always someone else on there doing it cheaper. Not as easy to make a living on there as some would have you believe.
I dont think in matters what you sell, your first priority should be to ensure you can provide something which is in demand on the site, and as long as the market is big enougth to absord the supply you throw at it, you should do very well.

just ensure that there is enough profit margin in it when taking the fees you will pay into account.

hope this helps
