i work for a housing company building houses im on 30 day consultation at the momet and at my first meeting i got offered voluntary redundancy which i turned down two days later my mate phoned me and offered me a job to start this monday what shall i do ive been with this company 8 years and dont want to lose my redndancy money

go back and ask your company if VR is still available. Chances are they'll let you have it- firms often prefer to use VR rather than make compulsory redundancies

Even if available there may be strings attached that could prevent you taking that job AND getting the EVR. A guy at my place found this out the hard way, and ended up losing out on the EVR altogether.
It's going to depend on the approach of the company and the relative timing of the start. Best of all is if you can keep it quiet (about the job) and push through with the VR. But if you have just started the consultation period, this isn't going to happen by next Monday. Maybe the start date can be delayed? That would be best.
Some employers may say 'good luck to you for finding a job so quick' and let you take the VR and run - though there is going to be a notice period issue.
Since the employer is obliged to give you time off to find a new job (if one is being declared compulsory redundant), others may say you can't have the VR.
