Does it ever contradict itself?
Like, does it say something somewhere then say the opposite somewhere else?

Ooo bitchy! :P
Of course. The Old Testament urged 'an eye for an eye' and the New Tesament tells us to 'turn the other cheek'.

One example of many.

Well...so much for Christianity then........
how judas died.

ascension to heaven.

The central issue is the possibility that Jesus was resurrected. If this is a complete fiction then the bible is a waste of paper, if it actually happened then it makes looking for internal inconsistencies a matter of nitpicking.
The bible is a loads of codswallop!!!
Why do you say that funnygirl?

I assume you take other ancient writings such as Caesar (for example) as history at face value.

So why is the bible codswallop?
Question Author
I believe the Old Testament to be made up (you must agree) but i think there are certain truths to the New Testament.
No I don't agree, why make up the Old Testament, and which bits of the New Testament are 'true' - and why?

Did the resurrection happen?

If it didn't then you might as well chuck the whole thing into the rubbish bin.

Question Author
I don't think Jesus existed. I think "jesus" is our morals.

Its hard to explain...right.......Our everyday dilemmas have been personified into a person and the journey he goes on (possibly so we can relate to it) So i do belive in the teachings of the bible but not the concept.
Very comfortable jonnoman, and so so many people have refused to face uncomfortable challenges by depersonifying Jesus, by reducing him to a 'good man' or a 'good ethic'

The New Testament describes Jesus as being crucified and then being raised from the dead.

I'd like to know jonnoman why you are so sure that this never happened, because like I said, it it didn't, then you might as well throw the bible into the rubbish bin.
Question Author
Truthful or not, it is a very interesting read. I don't just dismiss something that easily.
Here's my 'Good News Bible', Whiffey.............

Feel free to deposit it into any rubbish receptacle of your choosing...............
jonnoman, the discussion is not a new one, but for me I find the evidence for the resurrection compelling, at least as convincing as Caesar hurling his troops at nature's bulwarks during his invasion of Britain.

Few would deny Caesar's narrative, but so many dismiss the New Testament as fiction.

But why ????? What earthly benefit was there to some joker(s) to sit down and fabricate the New Testament?
Why did men go out and die for a known lie.

Oh, a typing baboon.
The oral tradition of the Jews was not written down until hundreds (sometimes thousands) of years after the happenings took place. There is documented historical evidence that Jesus existed and was crucified. Roman records. However, the New Testament was not written in its present form. It has been translated often from Aramaic and definitely from Greek. Knowing how translation can often be a matter of opinion and that no English speaking writer was around Jerusalem at the time. I have my doubts as to the veracity of some of the writings. That said, the ideal of thinking of others and taking care of them has to be a good thing.
The disciples made a lot of fuss in Jerusalem after the crucifixion. Why did not the authorities merely produce Jesus' body from the tomb? That would have shut them up. Far from that though, some of them went on to martyrdom, which is hard to understand if the whole thing was made up (four times at least)
