Myself and my colleague at work do the same job,get the same pay and our circumstances are identical so why are our tax codes different? Mine is 522L and hers is 494L? Does anybody know the answer?

She could be having a previous underpayment collected through her code, she may have another source of income she has not told you about, there are many possibilities - the amount of pay you receive is irrelevant. Yours is a standard tax code for this tax year; if she does not know why hers is different she should contact her tax office.
