Return to Work after bullying

I am due to return to work on Monday 18th Feb. My grievance against my boss has finally been concluded. The result was deemed as being "just short of bullying".

I do not understand what this means. Has he bullied me or not?!! It seems that he will be let off because of this outcome. I'm so angry. Is there any further action I can take?

Were you going down an official route? Normally there's a right of appeal if so? ''Just short of bullying' doesn't sound like any kind of official outcome I'm aware of. Do you kow if they're going to be monitored or get a warning or something?

I have no idea what will happen to him. It seems as though they know there was and still is a problem but they are sittintg on the fence with the decision. I have also heard on the grapevine that another grievance is on the cards where he is involved.

Oh and yes, I did go down the official route. I'm going to see my Union rep later.
Well if that's the case then there needs to be an official outcome as in 'no action taken' or 'finar warning' that sort of thing. Have you had a letter? How did you come by the 'just short of bullying' remark? Was it through feedback? If so it could still be that there's a letter due with an offical outcome.

Definitely speak to your rep as at the moment that is a pretty naff all outcome but I wouldn't mention the greivance that may be in the pipeline as it could look like you're gunning for the manager and that won't reflect well on you.

Do you have a copy of your companies bullying policy? What does that say? Or even the discipliary one?

The info came through my rep. He told me yesterday thats why I'm going to see him later to read the report. According to the report I gave as good as I got during the email correspondance between my boss and me. We were friends before all this cr@p happened and I feel that this has also been taken into consideration and gone in his favour. He did admit that he was in the wrong on a couple of things so I guess that is why he is being let off.

My rep is the one dealing with the up and coming grievance. I will in no way get involved but I will wait to see what comes out of it.
tigger - I'm sorry if that's the outcome. I thought about you yesterday & was going to get in touch! Well surely he can't get away with two seperate grievances!
Well in that case it more or less sounds like the offical outcome is 'no further action.'

What a mess eh? Is it worth looking to work elsewhere? Anyway love, from the sounds of things it's on the up and you're going to be ok. I hope it goes well this afternoon for you and keep us posted.

Hi Skyep,

I just have to wait and see what happens with the up and coming grievance. There was another grievance made against him 2 years ago as well. So that will be 3 altogether! The book definitely needs to be thrown at him. He can't keep getting away with this behavior.

I'm going to see my rep about taking my case further.

I am glad to be going back to work though as I'm pulling my hair out at home. I have been appointed a new boss and my ex boss is still off sick. I just hope he leaves the department.

I know I'm probably being stubborn here but why should I have to move. I've done nothing wrong as far as I'm concerned. He should be the one to move.

Bullying, be it at work or at school, is totally unacceptable and childish. If anyone is sitting on the fence, make sure you tell them that the only thing they are likely to get are splinters up their arse.

I hope this boss of yours gets the sack.

Thank you for that. Unfortunately, as with a lot of things these days, the offenders seem to have more rights than the wictims! He will just get a slapped wrist and told not to do it again!
bullying is subjective, whats bullying to some is not for others,

it appears they considered you over sensitive?

i had an employee who when asked to do a task, at her own speed but with accuracy thought i was bullying when after being presented with the work and noticing an obvious error on the first page asked her to re-do the task properly

she left, apparently because i kept asking her to work

personally i have always managed to apply myself well in work and tend to not get picked on if their is a bully about

Maybe I was being over sensitive, however I have evidence in the way of emails showing how he used to converse with me. The constant hounding and nit-picking became too much. He also verbally threatened me but there is no evidence of this so its my word against his. He has admitted to his flippant manner and mis-conduct and will be spoken to next week about his behaviour. He will not be my line manager anymore but when he returns from sick he will still be sitting in close proximity to me. Ugghh!!
A very good friend of mine also had to go back to work after her case of bullying by her boss proved inconclusive.

On a good note - he was given a formal warning and...she says all the managers now treat her with alot of respect...they now know that she's not scared of em and will take action if they act like %^^holes!

The chances are that they all side together and gossip once she's out of earshot but...she doesn't care cos like she says they now HAVE TO speak nicely to her.

Tigger, I really feel for you.
I had something similar happen to me. My boss bullied me (and others) and was eventually given the option to resign or be sacked.
When I returned to work I was either ignored or sniped at by the other managers, who blamed me for their friend having to leave.
I loved my job but in the end I left and went to work elsewhere as it was all too much for me.
The only advice I can give is that you keep a diary if he starts again, and try not to be on your own with him at any time, so you have a witness if he has a go at you.

My counter-signing manager seems to have it in for me now as well. She was the one who failed to see what was happening in front of her own eyes, especially as I brought it to her attention on several occasions. I also stated in my grievance that my line-manager had manipulated her.

Hi and thanks Mrs O,

I will keep a diary. On a couple of occasions he called me in for informal chats and wouldn't allow anyone else in the room. The was when he threatened me. I will not allow this to happen to me. It was a good job I kept the derogatory email conversations between him and myself.
