A young boy has drowned trying to save his young sister thats sad but what has made my blood boil is that two police community support officers stood by whilst he drowned the explanation THEY WERE NOT TRAINED TO DEAL WITH WATER RELATED ACCIDENTS it beggars belief passers by rescued the young girl if that child had been mine i would have dealt with those two wastrels myself !!!!!!!!!!!!!! what do you think ?

Erm, where is the link to this story? I find it hard to believe that ANYBODY would stand by and watch somebody drown, especially if they are the sort of person who has chosen to work for their local community. Could it possible be that the media has omitted some very important facts?

Our local rag recently reportesd that "PCSOs DON'T SOLVE CRIMES". Well, shock, horror, that would be why detectives are detecttives and PCSOs are Community Support Officers. Does what it says in the tin.

It was on the news at one o clock they spoke to the mother who is distraught and demanding answers as to why they stood by and did not help

I find it hard to understand why they didn't jump in to try and find the young lad, but it is worth noting that they couldn't actually see a body. He wasn't thrashing and drowning, his body had already disappeard below the water when they arrived. It's not a reason not to jump in and help, but it's not as awful as it first sounds.

So what actually hapened was that the PCSOs arrived after the boy had disappeared from view and two anglers, who I assume have knowledge of the water and the area, could not find him, so the PCSOs though it would be sensible to call for trained assistance? Hardly the same as standing by whilst he drowned and lettng two passers by jump in. The two passers by were already there for starters.

Depending on the circumstances I agree that possibly the officers could have jumped in and tried to locate the boy, I would like to think that I would, but depending on how long the boy had disappeared before they arrived would determine a lot of factors, also which direction the anglers thought he may have gone. Also, is it possible that two PCSOs plus two anglers would be too many in the water? Wouldn't one officer have to stay out with the little girl to make sure she was ok? It's easy for everyone to judge but none of us were actually there.

This is why there should be more police and no community support officers! Lets get back to a proper police force with well trained and experienced officers. The employment of pcso's is a cop out (no pun intended) - same as Teachers, Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, etc., etc.

Personally, I couldn't stand by and not try to help even though I am terrified of water.

i wouldnt jump into a murky pond to save a drowning child, so i wouldn't have the expectation that other people would be willing to give up their life for another

It is easy to blame people, but where were the parents in the first instance?

I am not one to be nasty, but it is easy for the parents to throw blame round when they clearly were no where around!!

What the hell were an 8 year old and a 10 year old doing playing in a six feet deep pond unattended???

By the looks of them the parents were probably in the pub!!

Blame the parents not PCSOs! What irresponsible parents to allow kids to get in this kind of situation in the first place. Children are the parents responsibility.
