What I understand of the medical profession is that every medical doctor starts out the same with the training etc, then work in a hospital, then specialise or become a GP.

If working for the NHS they are all on the same pay structure so I was wondering how in Gods name do they recruit for say, working in the clap clinic!!! The choice of being primarily involved in something like cardiology or radiology as opposed to examining pustulating herpes on some AIDS infected male prostitute can not be nice!!! Granted, I am sure all aspects have gruesome sides, but the clap clinic???

So, if you were gifted enough to be a doctor what would you choose to specialise in and what would you avoid at all costs?

I would choose Physiotherapy, becuase I quite like physical activity

I would never choose geriatrics because old people moan all the time.

I appreciate this is a rather boring question, but I am watching the cricket and we are doing very bad, so there.

I'd be a Psychiatrist. Because I would be on their mental level :-)
Physiotherapy is more or less dominated by old people Wardy. Just go check out the waiting room of a Physiotherapy department. You could of course go private or specialise in a sporting acadamy of some sort.
qualifying as a specialist in sexual heath is only an option like specialising in cardiology, gynocology ect and most aspect are quite gruesome.

like china says physio is mainly filled with older people (back problems, exercising new hips ect), I would love to try all of it, but would probably go for gynocology
id be a gynacologist
i thin people go in to that side of it to help people, or maybe dont want to specialise in something higher? Arent they mainnly nurses who do the STD tests and stuff?
I'd want to be a plastic surgeon...new boobs all round!
physiothapy is not the same as medicine, an entirely different degree required.
id this ward minter in a yet new name ?
yes he's been shadowman a couple of days.
thanks 4get ill now know which questions to avoid
I would choose to be a Midwife - I love babies!
why I think its a normal enough question
but do you like placentas smudge :-)
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm . nice with salad !
ah so you arent avoiding this question then :-)
im obviously replying to your intelligent answers : )
Well er, I'm not sure 4get! I've never actually tasted it - might be nice on toast though! ;o}

Actualy, now you've mentioned it, I think 'd prefer to be at the top end!

I'd really enjoy weighing the babies, top & tailing them, wrapping them up all cosy & warm, having a little cuddle, then placing them in the Mum or Dad's arms, ah!
I'd avoid blood so surgery is out of question, can't stand the sight of it, can't even eat if I see it on the telly

I'd probably be a psychiatrist too, or work as in the DNA labs, writing reports and solving crime mysteries everyday
