Anyone recently been caught speeding recently and had to go on a speed awareness scheme instead of getting a fine?

As you have to pay to go on the course, it is hardly instead of a fine.

But you don't get the points on your license that you would have if you don't do the course.
It's not a speed awareness course, it's just a way of buying your way out of points as Ethel says.

You are just fed propaganda, most of it untrue.

You are told things like excessive speed causes 25% of deaths on the road, the true percentage is 7%.

If you have 9 points on your license you take the course and get let back on the road to drive dangerously again, bit of a farce really.
my opinion is;
this sort of ridiculous course is invented because there is a quota system for the amount of driving bans that are served. the quota system is imposed by the cps, the police want to give everyone maximum penalty for everything and the government care about nothing else other than the fine.
