My son is doing a GTP course and is having a very difficult time. He has been given very little help by his school and feels that what he would really like to do is start again at a different school. Would he be able to get funding for this?

How far is he through the course? I did the GTP and although I had great support from my school mentor school many others on the course didn't. The best thing that they did was to talk to the course leader or uni tutor and explain that they were not getting the support. The school is obliged to give him support as they get money to do this. After the uni is informed then they will make a visit or talk to the school and things hopefully will be ok. I had a tough time moving from 2 terms in a year 2 class to my final term in year 6, which was not helped by the year 6 teacher who gave me no support or encouragement. I eventually ended up crying many a time and wanted to give it up a month before the end, but once my mentor knew she gave me extra support. As long as he has a great support network at home he will get through this. The GTP is a hard route into teaching but try and stick it out as it's worth it in the end.
