I will be 17 next month and I really want to get a part-time job on saturdays or even some evenings as I feel I need to do something different for a change. Does anyone have any ideas about what I could do and how I would go about it. Also, will my lack of experience of work be a problem??

Thanks xXx

Hi Heather, the easy answer is what do you fancy doing...if you want to earn some money retail work is a great way to do it, you meet people and you get store discounts (in most places), if you like animals pick a stable or local kennels, some places you will still be too young and if you're in education still you need to watch the hours, you could think about what you ultimately want to do and find something that will give you experience even if you work voluntarily....how do you find it, just ask around, check out help wanted in the local papers or newsagent...good luck and enjoy!
I worked in Dorothy Perkins at weekends whilst I was at college. You don't usually need experience as they will train you. It's just whether you can stick working in a shop, i couldn't personally lol
If your doing it for money then chose somewhere you'd like to work and get in quick, if you cna demonstrate motivation, honesty and enthusiasm it won't matter about your experience....

However if you want something to benefit your career long term, maybe think about volunteering? it'll give you experience your lacking and help for your future

I worked in McDonad's last year during some weekends and some nights after school.
It may seem like a boring job but it's actually a really good texperience, maybe some of the tasks ain't great but the people your working with are usually a great bunch of people.
Usually it young folk between 16-22 and the job pays well too and i would say is an excellent first job as it gives some basic experience for qualities that future employers kiijs for such as teamwork.
I used to do temporary Xmas work at Argos from the age of 15 and they asked me back every year as a temp til they made me a Saturday girl and then I worked part time for them for a couple of years. They have great shifts, evening work and you get 10% off. Of course I don't work there now as I HATE retail, but at the time it was fun, you work in the stockroom (great when hungover), on the till or even on the jewellery where you can try stuff on all day!!They take loads of temps on who are young like you so the social side is great, AND they have Xmas night out! The only downside is, everyone shops at Argos so you may well have to avoid a few people you dislike when they come into the store!!
