not sure how much use this is, but have a look: http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/supplyteachers/fi rsttime.cfm

and good luck!
keep your nerve and don't take things to heart if you find it difficult. Try to be really prepared and take some quizzes/activitiy sheets of your own in case the class teacher hasn't left enough work. take plenty of cheap spare biros and pencils that you don't mind not getting back. Get there early. Find out which teacher the class would have to report to if they misbehave so you can say 'I will be talking to Ms so and so' with authority. Pretend you know the kid's name by glancing at their exercise book cover-I've even asked to look at their book on that pretence! It kind of makes them believe that you know stuff about them. Get involved with the lesson- don't expect to just dish out some worksheets and leave them to it. It actually makes the lesson more enjoybale anyway. Good luck.
If the kids start playing up, don't be afraid to be firm - they need to know who's boss (even if you are only supply!).

Good luck!
