No. Depends upon the sickness, but for many, surely one of the reasons for not being at work is not to infect all the other staff. The other significant reason being that you're so poorly, you can't work.

However, being seen by your boss in, say, the local shopping centre or pub when you're supposed to be ill would not be a good idea. It just doesn't look right and would, naturally, make the boss a little suspicious.

But, personally, I usually feel better being outside in the cold when I have a cold, warmth seems to make it worse.

It depends what's wrong. If you say you've got the flu, then your boss sees you up and about, it's fairly obvious you're lying.
If you REALLY had fever or flu for instance, you would not even think of going out, it would be a struggle to even get out of bed.

If you only had a cold then, in most cases, you could most probably go into work. The infectious state is before the cold 'comes out' so you wont infect others at work.

If youre well enough to go out and about, youre well enough to go to work!
colds can be tranferred by coughs and sneezes so the germs will be airborne until the person stops coughing and sneezing.

they can also be passed on by touch

so you will likely infect many workmates
