corporal punishments in Japenese schools.

Hi there,
I have read some real horror stories about corporal punishments in Japenese schools despite it being legally prohibited since 1948.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of Japenese schools and could give me a balanced view of their attitude to corporal punishments esp in kindergarten up to grade 1.

i have heard of Shogun's ghost, but don't think that this is a very balanced view.
