You would pay tax on every penny you earn at 20%, assuming you are a basic rate tax payer and are already paying tax.

You will pay NI too.
you can ask the tax office to split your code and say allocate 500 to the part time saturday job, or work out how much based on the actuall hours, then u pay no tax on the second job but maybe slightly more on the lower rate in your first job, but this is probably giving you a bit more. Ask the tax helpline to give u an idea. Also, if you are over a certain age u can get single person's tax credit, ask the WTC office about that. if u are living alone u should qualify for that and not have to pay tax and insurance on a second job.
I work full time and have a second job every other saturday. I am taxed on both jobs but because I earn under a certain amount, the amount I am taxed does not change.

Hi Sam,

I have two jobs, i work 9-5 mon-fri in an office & have a part time bar job (which i get paid cash in hand for so luckily i don't pay tax). Have you thought about doing some bar work? I really enjoy it, it stops me from going out & spending my money but i also have a laugh & get to meet people while being paid for it!
