I recently passed my N.V.Q.2. My folder and certificate are back to my manger of the Residential Home I work in. She is deliberately holding on to them. It has been back for over 2 months now. No sign of wage increase and I now need my certificate as I start a new job in just under 2 weeks. All pleas for my certificate are falling on deaf ears at the moment. Please HELP !!!!!!! Thanks

You have a right to that certificate, and your coursework folder. The certificate is YOUR proof that you have completed and passed the course. You could call the exam board and ask for a replacement certificate, but it might cost, and why should you pay? Besides, your boss is effectively stopping you applying for another job, and she's not allowed to do that.

If asking your boss deliberately and politely doesn't work, then write her a formal letter asking for it, offering a photocopy if she wants to keep it on record (my boss has copies of my certificates). Point out the above and say that you will take this over her head if you have to.

If you're in a trade union, then speak to a rep as well, see if you can them to put a little pressure on.

Your NVQ cert and your folder are YOUR property and your manager has NO right to withold them. I would be inclined to do as SaxyJag suggests. When you write to her I would ensure that you also send a copy of it to her superior (and your union rep if you have one) so that she is forced to acknowledge it. That way you also have further recourse if she doesn't and she has some explaining to do to her own boss.

Good luck hotlips1 and congrats on passing your NVQ!
