Could someone tell me if it's improper not to have a sluice room in a 25 bed Residential Home please? The home I currently work in doesn't have one. The majority of the residents are either incontinent or doubly incontinent and we have to empty commodes down the toilet after swilling out the pot in a tiny little hand basin,Should this be so? I have worked in many homes and there has always been a sluice. Thanks

Check on the National Care Standards Commission site, (just put ncsc into your search box), there may be an answer there. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

After working in a good few care homes, I have only found that the newer homes have sluice rooms. Other then that, its tipping the commodes down the toilet and bleaching them when not in use. As you say, you have worked in many a care home, so you must now by now, that not all rules and regulations are followed. I afraid to say that we (the carers) care, otherwise we would not be doing the job, but the owners just expect you to get on with it.
