i've completed and passed my nvq2 and want to do my nvq3. I'mbeing told I can't do my 3 as I'm not training to be a senior carer.I can do my 3 if I pay which I can't afford. I want to go for another job where I've offered a job but my present employers say I must pay for my nvq2 if I leave even thought it was government funded or I must stay where I am for 12 months,I hate where I am working now. What can I do?

Unless you were told before you took your NVQ2 that you would be asked to repay it if you left, or even better were given written confirmation of this or signed something to that effect, they would be hard pushed to force you to pay if you left. If they made a deduction from your final pay it would be an inappropriate deduction and you could bring a claim against them for doing this.

If you did know before you undertook the training that you would have to repay it if you left then youll have to repay it. Even training contracts like this have a time lapse (i.e. leaving within 2 years of completing the training) so I suspect your employer is trying it on.

It sounds like youre ready to leave this employer. Move on. If they treat you badly contact the CAB for local advice. Document everything and put your complaints to them in writing calmly and instigate a grievance procedure.
If you get working tax credits you may be able to do the course at college for free. You could always volunteer as a senior carer at you place or elsewhere, I think you'd only need to do about 40 hours total.
