I am looking to become a freelance editor in the future, but I do not know the process in becoming one.

Can anyone offer any advice on how I go about this?

You'll need to get into film/TV school (preferably) or work for a production company as a runner or other low paid lacky and work your way to the cutting room. You seldom see jobs advertised outside the normal industry channels. It's not the sort of industry that takes in untrained people off the street. Usually people either migrate from other areas of the creative arts to train as editors or they gain industry contacts through education. You don't say what stage you are at in terms of your education but you could start by getting prospecti from unis/colleges that offer media/film courses. Obviously if you have an interest in film production (and preferably a show reel of your own work) that will help.

My wife who works in film suggests you enquire of Goldsmiths and also the National Film and TV School in Beaconsfield as they both run excellent courses.A way to get more experience is via

which lists all sorts of jobs whereby you might be able to gain helpful experience and meet people who can be of help to you, (both paid and no/lo).

Good Luck :)
