Access Course & Teacher Training

Hi
Im applying for a mature student access course so i can get into University to do my teacher training.
I was wondering if anyone had done an access course and if they are the best way to go.
Also the tacher trainign course so i can become a primary teacher, is it very hard. Im a single mum and dont want to take on too much. Although i do get a lot of free time aswell

I don't know anything about access course because my teacher training was done (many years ago) along the 'conventional' route.
What I can tell you is that the theory side of teacher training isn't particularly taxing for most people. (There's a lot of stuff to learn about development psychology but, if you're a mum, you might find that you know some of it already!). The practical side of teacher training, however, is totally exhausting. (I remember one mature student, who had formerly worked 12-hour shifts doing manual labour on Liverpool docks, stating that teacher training was ten times as tiring as anything he'd done before!). You might only be doing 6 hours per day in the classroom but you might need to spend an additional 10 hours per day on preparation and marking!
I'm not trying to put you off. Teaching is a very rewarding career but anyone considering teacher training needs to go into it with their eyes wide open.
