Does anybody know any web sites that that can tell you exactly what you are entitled to benefit wise please? Looks like my job in France maybe coming to an end. Also we have 15 k in the bank. Would we still be able to get benefits even if we have this money or should webe better going and buying as new car before we apply?

So I can still have cash in the bank?
If you think that you might need to claim Jobseeeker's Allowance, you should know that there are two types.

People who've got a recent full history of National Insurance contributions can get Contribution-Based JSA for up to 6 months, which is NOT means-tested.

Other people (such as yourself, if you've not been paying UK NICs) can apply for Income-Based JSA but that IS means tested. That means that the amount payable is reduced (on a sliding scale) if you've got any substantial savings, going down to nil if your savings are over a certain amount. [I won't quote figures because they might have changed since I last saw them; the calculator in my link will show their effect]. Further, since the means-testing is based upon household income, rather than solely upon the income of the applicant, you'll get nothing if you've got a partner in full-time employment.
