£2bn of UK aid to help Third World go green

// Britain yesterday pledged almost £2 billion in “climate aid” to help finance foreign projects including wind turbines in Africa and greener cattle farming in Colombia.

Each household will contribute £70 to schemes to tackle climate change in developing countries before March 2015, under plans championed by Ed Davey, the Liberal Democrat Energy Secretary. //

The moan has always been that there is no point in us all going green because the rest of the world will still pollute. Well now, the Government are tackling that by donating aid to 'Green' aid schemes.

A win-win for us all surely?

not a win at all, why are we imposing our ideas, and not ones i particularly agree with on others.
shouldn't we be more concerned about this, if this continues how will the native people support themselves.

How on earth do you equate this as a win? The Boy George is about to slap further austerity measures on us and with the other hand dish out 2bn to foreigners on the Emperors clothes.

This Tory Government has truly lost its way. The sooner they are out the better.

Farming in Columbia. Yes of course, farming maybe but it wont be cattle.

Each household wil contribute £70. That includes those on benefits and pensioners I would imagine. Nice.
The sad thing is that most of the third world was green until the Europeans arrived :-)
Have you got a link? - couldn't see it immediately

Is Columbian cattle farming a high priority environmental issue?

I mean with the rate that the Amazon is getting cut down and all?
Yet another example of a weak Tory Prime Minister kowtowing to his Liberals counterparts.

Perhaps we should first be addressing the problem of our pensioners dying from the cold, before we start handing out money all over the World?

I can here the sound of clockwork dolls, wound-up and working lol
Yes, and how are we going to plug up those volcanoes spoiling everybody's efforts every day!? Cows farting that's another one, camels? don't talk me about camels......
rojash, was it really, well most of Britain was quite green until we had a massive population explosion, then the powers that be decided to paper over much of southern England, and will continue to do so until we have no green space left.
We have a population in the region of 66million........occupying approximately 9% of land in UK. Allowing an additional 2% of the countryside to be developed will *not* see 'England's Green and pleasant land' (other countries are also available) disappear under concrete.

// most of Britain was quite green until we had a massive population explosion //

I wonder what caused that?

Gromit, according to your graph the population has shot up since birth control became more fashionable and wide spread lol...
By the way, the last post was meant as humour...
seems our cities are taking the brunt, however i stand by what i said, that much of the land grab and build is happening down here, you can't build on certain parts of the country from my understanding, national trust land, or designated wildlife reserves. If they build more towns, say like MK, or Welwyn Garden City what about jobs in those areas. The last time i was in that neck of the woods jobs were not easy to find.
Defra stats, 70 percent of the land area is designated for agriculture.
Thank your lucky stars its not a Labour government, they would have given even more away !
If think £2bn will actually reach the "green projects" of the third world then you are deluded. A small number of people will become very rich from this (if they are not already).
With all the £bns put towards green energy it doesn't seem to make much difference to our climate and disasters. Maybe the problem is not solvable and we're all wasting out time. Has any expert done the figures to actually solve the problem rather than plouging more and more money into a bottomless pit.
I have just spent 10 days in a hospice they could use some of that.
