Doubt it.
I doubt it, but you never know until you try!
I would be more annoyed at spending £21 on tights! Ask your union for some real advice (and why did the kid have their coat on in lessons?)
maybe on the back of the chair?
£21! More money than sense I think
dont hink so but you can repair them. turn them inside out then with a fine needle or pin push through to the snagged thread and gently pull through, put a small stich to secure. no one will notice you can hardly see repair. I do this with ordinary tights and stockings ( tip from mother ) and it works good luck
Is it very cold where you work? Rather than putting in a claim, could you campaign for some heating to save you having to wear thick tights indoors and the poor kid having to do his work in his coat.
Can't see why. You snagged them.

At least you've something to keep your mind off your dodgy toe.

No - you ought to have been more careful. If you could claim from anyone it would be a) the kid for leaving his coat where he did or b) the LA for not providing coathooks. How would you prove negligence? It's up the individual in any liability claim to mitigate risk, and check before you lean over the pupil.

Now I'm wondering about those shirts and suits I ruined because the cheap school biros leaked in my pocket.

It's probably worth asking - I doubt you'd get anywhere as it doesn't seem the school was negligent, but there's probably no harm in trying (although if you are new in the role think about what the employer may think of you).
I would think the last thing schools can afford is compensation. You bought the tights, wore them to work and snagged them yourself. Buy some cheap ones in Primark for school and keep the expensive ones for evenings.
If I was your boss and you asked me for £21 to replace a pair of tights I'd ask why you thought it was a good idea to wear such an expensive item of clothing in your type of work (followed by telling you to sod off)
Ha ha! Tell it like it is Evian! :o)
if you have to wear specific (expensive) tights for your work, then possibly you can claim for them via your tax allowance the same way you can claim £65 a yar laundry if you have to wash a work uniform at home
and if that is the case you can claim it backdated 6 years the way you can the laundry allowance
I don't know quite why but this has reminded me of the time a varicose vein emerged on my shin when I was teaching. Talk about heart doing a somersault. Then the relief when I discovered it was a mixture of ink and saliva that some child had managed to dribble onto my sheer flesh-tone tights.

Thick black teflon-coated trousers, much more sensible near mucky kids.
