We've just had a CV in from a girl who has taken a year out after completing her degree and now wants to enter the job market.

Great A Level results - and a 2.1.

But....her A Levels are in Textiles, Art and Sociology and her degee is in Textiles.

We are in Reinsurance.

Why on earth would she think her degree would prepare her for the role we are advertising?

We don't need new curtains!

I agree that you should have specified a law degree if that's what you need - as NJ says, there are thousands applying for some jobs these days. A job description/person specification with it should have clarified this when you advertised (we always include this in the spec these days, as to what is essential and what is desirable), but the person spec is often seen as the ideal candidate, and many applicants don't match up with every single criterion. I applaud your applicant for having a go.

It is a soft degree.
