is it worth applying to a job where I only fit in to 5 out of 6 Essentials required?

Will i get a look in or will i be straight on the 'Rejects' pile because i dont fit in to all their Essentials requirements? i just dont to waste my time or their time, shall i just go for it and just say in the cover letter that i am willing to learn new skills etc?

i have been looking for a job for a while although i am still currently working, but was told by my employer that they will need to let us Agency staff go in the next 4-12weeks. So i need to find a job soon. many thanks

I would also be interested in the answer to this. I have seen a job advertised today which asks for an NVQ in Customer Service...I have 20+ years experience in Customer Service but my NVQ is in Business Admin! I don't know whether to fill the form in if it will just be a waste of time!
it is always worth applying as you never know what they are looking for and how good the other applicants are. Sometimes essentials are not so important if you have other worthwhile attributes that could be considered.

Go for it, you have nothing to loose.
Make your application as interesting as possible, be positive about what you can offer and go for it. I have to employ people occasionally and I wouldn't reject an applicant who could fulfill most of the essentials if I thought they had something to offer. Good luck!
Yes apply, they only put that out of hope, if they get dozens with 6 out 6 then you're struggling but if they get none they'll start to look at those with 5/6 and so on, always worth a go.
I wonder about some of these job adverts, they request so many skills and so much existing experience in very specialised subjects sometimes that you do wonder if there is anybody in the world that could meet all the requirements unless they already worked for the company advertising!
I would apply if I were you. It isn't a waste of your time as it doesn't take that long to put a cv in the post and if you aren't suitable for them they will bin it straight away.

However if they like you then your in with a chance.

My other half never applies for jobs as he never seems to fit 100% of the requirements. He does annoy me though as he has over 25 yrs experience in his trade but won't apply because he hasn't one stupid thing they want.
