Are companies obliged to pay staff, time and a half or double time rates of pay on bank holidays and other public holidays?

I work for a large company and if we do any overtime, we get the same hourly rate as regular working rates.

Unless it specificaly states in your contract that you will be paid extra, then the employer is under no obligation and they can pay you the same rate as they would the rest of the time.

Thank you
Also if they give you the time off for BH they can take that out of your annual holiday entitlement, again providing it is in your contract.
